Advanced Tower Systems (ATS) is a joint venture of Mecal BV and Hurks Groep BV, established in May 2005. ATS is headed by the Managing Director Frans Brughuis who was in charge of Mecal’s wind energy activities for many years.
Larger wind turbines require larger tower dimensions. The conventional tubular steel towers are extremely hard to transport over land when the diameter is more than 4.3 m. Moreover, current steel prices make large steel towers very expensive. ATS has developed a new tower concept as an economically and logistically attractive alternative to the steel towers. The ATS tower is THE solution for wind turbines of 1.5 MW or more, at hub heights of 80 to 150m.
