Founded in 1899 by Felten & Guilleaume and the Deutsch-Atlantische Telegraphengesellschaft, Siemens became a major shareholder of NSW in 1931 and acquired the remaining shares in 1995.

In 2000 NSW became a 100 % subsidiary of Corning Cable Systems. In 2007 General Cable Corporation (NYSE: BGC) assumed responsibility for the entire operation of NSW.

NSW is one of the world’s leading suppliers of fiber optic submarine cable systems, submarine energy cables, custom-made underwater cables for the offshore industry and aerial cable systems for back haul terrestrial telecommunications applications in high voltage lines. NSW also develops and manufactures plastic and environmental products for a broad range of applications.
