GWEC to become international partner of HUSUMwind 2007

Brussels/Husum 2 May 2007

The Global Wind Energy Council and Messe Husum have signed an agreement to make GWEC the exclusive international partner of the 2007 HUSUMwind Conference & Exhibition, which will take place on 18-22 September 2007 in Husum, Germany. The aim of the cooperation is to increase the visibility and reach of the event beyond Germany and to put a stronger international and political focus on the accompanying conference.

HUSUMwind is the oldest and largest trade fair for wind energy in the world and it will take place for the 10th time this year since 1989. More than 600 companies from 30 countries will present their products and services to an audience of over 16,000 visitors from 40 countries. This represents a 15% increase on the last event in 2005. The exhibition space of 25,000m2 is already fully booked.

”We congratulate HUSUMwind on its 10th birthday, and GWEC is delighted to participate in this important event as the international partner,” said Steve Sawyer, GWEC’s Secretary General.

“HUSUMwind is already working with industry associations such as BWE and VDMA in Germany, but in addition to this, we were looking for a strong international partner to enhance the event’s visibility and scope outside of Germany. As the representative voice of the international wind industry, GWEC is the perfect partner for HUSUMwind, and we would be delighted to see this cooperation continue into the future,” said Hanno Fecke, Managing Director of Messe Husum.

The five-day event is under the patronage of the German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel and the Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, Peter Harry Carstensen. In addition, high ranking political representatives from the US, Canada, France, China and India have already confirmed their attendance.

All turbine manufacturers active at international level will be present at HUSUMwind. Moreover, for the first time, two utilities (E.ON and Vattenfall) will exhibit in Husum.
