Canada - CanWEA to unveil vision for wind energy

"Canada's electricity system faces a number of challenges and the decisions we take in the next few years will determine whether or not Canada will have a sustainable electricity system in the future"

The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) has announced it will unveil a bold new vision for wind energy development in Canada at its 2008 Annual Conference and Trade Show in October 2008.

The trade show, Fast Forward to Wind, will be held from October 19 to 22, 2008 in Vancouver, B.C.

"Canada's electricity system faces a number of challenges and the decisions we take in the next few years will determine whether or not Canada will have a sustainable electricity system in the future," says Robert Hornung, president of CanWEA. "Our vision outlines the significant role wind energy can play in addressing these challenges and discusses what needs to be done for Canada to capitalize on its wind energy opportunity to secure a growing percentage of the more than trillion that will be invested globally in wind energy over the next decade."

The vision document provides a snapshot of wind energy's potential contribution to Canadian electricity production and describes how this clean, renewable source of power will create thousands of new jobs and revitalize rural economies across Canada.

With more than 200 exhibitors and 2,000 participants, Fast Forward to Wind represents Canada's premier gathering of wind energy industry experts and advocates from Canada, the U.S. and Europe. CanWEA's 24th Annual Conference and Tradeshow will also feature educational and valuable networking sessions.

The detail of the vision document will be shared by Robert Hornung during opening ceremonies on October 20, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre.
