Venezuela - Bi-national agreement allows breakthrough in the production of wind energy

Pilot program to install 72 MW of wind energy in the Latin American country

Following a bilateral agreement between the state company Petroleos de Venezuela and the oil consortium Galp of Portugal, the University Simon Bolívar (USB) is developing a pilot program that plans the installation of 72 MW of wind energy in the Latin American country.

One of the specialists involved reported that 24 MW will be allocated to the island of Margarita, by locating facilities at three locations. Meanwhile, another 24 MW will be installed in Paraguaná (Falcón State) and the 24 MW will be located in Chacopata (State of Sucre).

It was also reported that the first stage of the study involves the installation of measurement towers to determine the weather conditions of each region in question, and once completed and returned the expected results, they estimate that the first wind project could come into operation in 2013.
