Denmark - Vestas enters into several supply agreements with Global Wind Power

Vestas will supply up to 140 MW of wind turbines for farms located in Romania and Bulgaria

The Danish wind turbine manufacturer has entered into several supply agreements with the wind developer, Global Wind Power. According to these contracts, Vestas will supply up to 140 MW of wind turbines for farms located in Romania and Bulgaria. At the same time, the company has announced that it has received the first order for its Chinese turbines (Vestas has designed a wind turbine specifically for this market).

The agreement between Vestas and Global Wind Power is for the supply, installation and start-up of 50 1.8-MW machines and 25 2-MW machines. Vestas will also be responsible for the maintenance of all this capacity over the first five years that the wind farms are in operation.

The Danish firm has not provided details of the distribution of the capacity that will be installed in the two eastern European countries and has also not specified where the wind farms are located. Nonetheless, it has confirmed that it plans to start construction of the wind farms in time for them to be completed before the end of 2010. According to Vestas, the same customer – Global Wind Power – has already installed 400 MW of wind power using its machines.

The wind turbine manufacturer has also signed an agreement with the electric utility China Datang Renewable Power to supply 58 V60-850 turbines (of 850 kilowatts). This machine has been designed to support extreme cold and heat and, Vestas explains, is the first to be tailor-made for a specific market. The company will also be responsible for installing the machines on wind farms in the autonomous region of Inner Mongolia, and will service the machines during the first two years of operation.
