Wind Energy in NigeriaNigeria - MAN’s Kano wind farm ready in 2011

30 megawatt wind power plant to be constructed in Kano State

The 51-megawatt hybrid wind farm, which will be built in phases, would be completed within nine months and commissioned by the second quarter of next year.

MAN, the umbrella body of manufacturing outfits in the country, is already building 30 MW wind power plants for manufacturing industries in Kano State .

Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has commenced talks with an independent power company, Genesis Electricity Limited, to provide captive power plants for its members across the country.

Sydney & Samuels recently signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Manufacturers Association of Nigeria to facilitate the wind turbines project, which is a crucial step towards realising the Federal Government’s vision to meet Nigeria’s energy needs.

Speaking at the occasion, Reginald Odiah, chairman, Manufacturers Power Development Company, a special-purpose vehicle incorporated by MAN to tackle the manufacturing sector’s perennial power problems, said “the signing of the PPA signifies a new era in solving the power needs of the manufacturers.”

Samuel Marcus Essien, managing director and chief executive Officer, Sydney & Samuels, assured that wind power would form a major plank of the firm’s business going forward, and the company would build on the considerable onshore and offshore wind energy resource available in the country to provide energy.

“Sydney & Samuels International Limited has identified different good wind resource locations across the country and it is our aim to replicate the Kano wind power project in different states across the Federation in years to come,” he said.
